The European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) adopted a joint innovation agenda on the 19th of July. The aim is to increase the transfer of European and African research knowledge into concrete results such as products, services, companies and jobs.

The AU-EU Innovation Agenda was adopted under the Global Gateway Initiative and will guide science, technology and innovation cooperation between Africa and Europe over the next decade.

The agenda includes four objectives with short-, medium- and long-term actions grouped according to the priority areas of AU-EU cooperation in research and innovation: Health, Green Transformation, Innovation and Technology, and Science, in addition to other cross-cutting themes.

An accompanying roadmap, which is updated and expanded quarterly, provides an overview of the coordination of the agenda and all activities. The responsible European and African representatives for research and innovation will meet in 2024 to review progress on implementation.

In addition, an AU-EU Innovation Interface (AU-EU Interface) was presented, which contains information on initiatives and offers for innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers within the framework of the AU-EU Innovation Agenda.
